Lot 35:
Description
A collection of assorted brassware items featuring both decorative and functional pieces. The group includes a wall-mounted cast brass bell with a pivoting arm and a white braided cotton pull cord. This is accompanied by a hand bell with a turned wooden handle and two small figural bells cast in the form of women in nineteenth-century dress. Further small-scale bells include two graduated conical examples with loop finials. The collection also features two small brass vases; one is a simple flared form, while the other features an engraved foliate design and a ruffled rim.
Additional pieces include a set of Three Wise Monkeys in cast metal, a miniature figure of a pig, and a substantial cast brass door handle with a circular backplate. A notable item in the lot is a long-handled brass shoehorn with a decorative finial depicting a dragon above a banner reading “WALES”. Several items, including the vases and figural bells, show a naturally aged patina with surface oxidation and minor verdigris visible in the deeper recesses of the engraved patterns. The pieces are predominantly cast or turned with no additional manufacturer marks legible.
Condition report:
The collection appears in overall good vintage condition. The wall-mounted bell and its bracket are structurally sound, though the cotton pull cord shows some light soiling (photo 1). The brass surfaces across all items display a range of natural tarnish and patina consistent with age. Minor green verdigris is present in the crevices of the engraved vase (photo 4). No major dents, cracks, or structural damage are visible in the provided photographs.
