Lot 186:
Description
This lot comprises a pair of hand-decorated glass tumblers and a large collection of die-cast model vehicles. The clear glass tumblers feature gold-toned rims and bases, decorated with vintage car motifs including black and red early touring car styles. They are contained within their original red and tan cardboard box, which bears the printed text Crown Décor, VINTAGE CARS, ONE PAIR OF TUMBLERS, and HAND DECORATED WITH 22 CARAT GOLD. The box also illustrates a MORRIS car.
The collection of die-cast model vehicles includes numerous early 20th-century passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Notable examples include touring cars, coupes, and roadsters in various colours such as red, blue, green, and silver. Some models feature a printed license plate reading VL 5372. The assortment also contains commercial liveries such as Upton’s Tea and W. Clifford & Sons Dairymen, alongside a red fire engine marked BOROUGH GREEN & DISTRICT. The models are constructed from die-cast metal with plastic and metal components for wheels and trim.
Condition report:
The glass tumblers appear to be in good condition with no visible chips or cracks (photo 1). The original presentation box shows shelf wear, creasing, and minor staining consistent with age (photo 1). The die-cast model vehicles are in varied condition, largely showing signs of being play-worn. Significant damage is visible on a teal-coloured car which has a deteriorated and shattered yellow plastic canopy (photos 4, 13, 14). Many models exhibit paint chipping, missing steering wheels, and missing spare tires (photos 5, 8, 11). One black car appears heavily soiled or weathered (photo 14).
