Lot 156:
Description
A collection of ceramic tea services comprising two distinct patterns. The first group is a porcelain tea service by Noritake, decorated in a cream ground with elaborate gilt scrolling, red borders, and floral medallions. This service includes a teapot with lid, a cream jug, a lidded sugar bowl, and six trios. The underside of a cup bears a printed red mark reading “Noritake” in script above a laurel wreath surrounding a stylized “N”, with “NIPPON TOKI KAISHA” below.
The second group is a fine bone china tea service by Grafton China, featuring a scalloped square-profile form. The decoration consists of transfer-printed floral sprays within navy blue borders and gilt rims. This service includes two large serving plates, a cream jug, a sugar bowl, ten teacups, ten saucers, and eleven side plates. A printed mark on the base of a plate features a shield containing the letters “A B J”, with “ENGLAND” above and “GRAFTON CHINA” and “MADE IN” surrounding it.
Condition report:
Both services appear to be in good overall condition. The Grafton China pieces show visible gilt wear to the rims and handles consistent with use (photos 1, 4, and 5). The Noritake service appears well-preserved with bright gilding and no visible chips or cracks in the provided photographs (photo 2).
