Lot 122:
Description
A collection of four ceramic animal figurines, including several examples produced by Beswick of England. The group comprises one standing cat, two lying foals, and one standing sheep. The standing cat is depicted in an inquisitive pose with a grey and white striped tabby glaze and green eyes; it features a circular black backstamp on the base reading “BESWICK ENGLAND” around a central device, an incised four-digit number “1883”, and an original green and gold foil label on the chest. The two identical lying foals are finished in a gloss brown glaze with white socks and blazes, each bearing the impressed mark “BESWICK ENGLAND” and the model number “915” on the underside. The standing sheep is finished in a textured white glaze with a black face and feet, marked to the base with a black printed stamp reading “BESWICK ENGLAND”.
Condition report:
The standing cat and one lying foal appear to be in good condition with no visible chips or cracks (Photos 1, 2, and 3). The second lying foal has a small chip to the tip of one ear (Photo 1). The standing sheep shows significant surface dirt and yellowing to the glaze across the back and underside, with one foot showing a rough texture that may indicate a past repair (Photos 1 and 4).
