Description

A collection of fourteen Royal Doulton miniature character jugs, each hand-painted with a glazed finish. The assortment represents a variety of historical, literary, and fictional figures. Notable subjects include Bacchus, The Falconer, and figures from The Three Musketeers including Porthos and Aramis. Other characters depicted include Neptune, Long John Silver, The Mad Hatter, and a figure with a key, possibly representing a gaoler.

The underside of the Bacchus jug bears a printed green backstamp featuring a lion atop a crown over a circular mark reading “MADE IN ENGLAND ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND”. Centred below is the name “Bacchus”, model number “D. 6521”, and “COPR 1958 DOULTON & CO LIMITED”. It also lists registration numbers “Rd No 889370”, “Rd No 38226”, “Rd No 8036”, and “Rd No 421/59”. The Porthos jug (D. 6516, COPR 1955) and The Falconer (D. 6547, COPR 1959) bear similar Royal Doulton factory marks with their respective titles and registration codes. The collection features detailed relief moulding with characteristic handles integrated into the costume or accessories of the figures.

Condition report:

The collection appears to be in good overall condition. No chips, cracks, or visible repairs are evident from the overview or detail images (photos 1-6). The glazed surfaces retain a high shine, and the painted details are well-preserved. Minor surface dust is visible, consistent with long-term shelf display.
