The collection features four wooden-bodied spoke shaves of varying sizes, each with an inset steel blade. Two brass and wood spirit levels are included, both marked by the maker. The first is a brass boat-shaped level stamped J. RABONE & SONS MAKERS BIRMINGHAM ENG MADE IN ENGLAND and WARRANTED No 1625 CORRECT. The second is a rectangular wooden level with a brass top plate stamped J. RABONE & SONS MAKERS BIRMINGHAM ENG and WARRANTED No 1627 CORRECT. A small mechanical tool finished in cream paint with brass adjustment knobs is provided in a worn cardboard box.
Condition report:
The tools show signs of heavy use and age-related wear throughout. The ANANT smoothing plane has significant surface oxidation on the blade and lever cap (photo 4). The Stanley block plane displays moderate surface rust across the cast iron body and lever cap (photo 3). The wooden spoke shaves exhibit a dark patina and wear to the handles, with rusting visible on the inset blades (photo 2). Both Rabone spirit levels show tarnish and surface scratching to the brass components, though the glass vials appear intact (photo 5). The cardboard box for the small mechanical tool is heavily worn with torn edges and structural losses (photo 3).
