Description

This lot comprises two mantel clocks of differing styles and periods. The first is an architectural style clock featuring a dark-finished case, possibly made of cast iron, with gilded neoclassical relief decorations including a sunburst pediment and floral swags. The circular white dial features black Roman numerals and two winding arbors. The mechanical movement is stamped ‘ANSONIA CLOCK CO USA NEW YORK’. This clock includes a detached pendulum bob and a winding key. The second item is a bracket style clock in a wooden case with a mahogany-tone finish and a decorative brass-tone carrying handle. The square face features gold-tone foliate spandrels and a dial marked ‘H. SAMUEL’. This clock utilises a battery-operated quartz movement marked ‘AIKICO JAPAN’ and features an electronic chime unit connected to a speaker mounted on the interior of the rear door.

Condition report:

The Ansonia clock is missing its rear cover (photo 6). There are minor scuffs and losses to the finish on the edges of the case (photo 4). The movement appears complete but is untested for working order. The detached pendulum and key are present in a plastic bag (photo 4). The H. Samuel clock appears in good cosmetic condition. The movement is untested and requires a battery. A speaker is mounted to the inside of the rear hinged door (photo 3).
