Description

A pair of Indian style meat carving tools comprising a fixed-blade carving knife and a two-prong carving fork, each housed in a matching hand-carved wooden scabbard. The set features handles and sheaths constructed from a dark wood, possibly rosewood or walnut, intricately carved with a continuous floral and foliate pattern. The tools are fitted with brass crossguards terminating in ball-end terminals, with corresponding brass throats and chapes on the scabbards. Each scabbard is equipped with a functional brass locking spring mechanism to secure the implements. The steel knife blade is single-edged with a slight clip point, and the fork features two tapered prongs. No maker’s marks or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the blades or furniture.

Total length of knife in scabbard: 31.75 cm
Total length of fork in scabbard: 29.2 cm
Knife blade length: 20.3 cm.

Condition report:

The set is in a used condition. The hand-carved wooden handles and scabbards appear intact but show some drying and light surface wear consistent with age. The brass components on both items exhibit a heavy patina and tarnish (photo 1). The steel knife blade shows significant surface scratching, pitting, and dark oxidation spots, particularly towards the tip (photo 3). The fork prongs show similar surface oxidation and light corrosion (photo 3). The locking spring mechanisms remain functional.
