Description
A collection of artworks including several examples by the artist Steven John Harris. This group comprises various mixed media works on canvas, board, and paper, featuring a range of subjects from traditional floral still lifes to modern expressionist compositions. Two notable pieces depict floral arrangements in yellow and red, set within ornate purple and lime green painted frames that feature deliberate thick paint drips and linear applications in pink, yellow, and green extending over the lower portion of the images and frames. Another oil on board painting depicts five male faces in profile against a dark ground, housed in a gilded and green-toned frame. Several modern works are mounted in black frames with vibrant red or blue mats, including an abstract reclining figure in red and blue.
The verso of three framed works carry handwritten inscriptions in ink. One reads ‘”TRANQUIL” Steven John STEVEN JOHN HARRIS WWW.UNBELIEVABLE-ART.CO.UK’. A second is inscribed ‘”OLD CARDS” Steven John STEVEN JOHN HARRIS WWW.UNBELIEVABLE-ART.CO.UK’. The third reads ‘”LEE SHORE” Steven John S J HARRIS WWW.UNBELIEVABLE-ART.CO.UK’. These works are presented in glazed black frames with wide white or cream mounts. A white adhesive label with handwritten alphanumeric characters is visible on the corner of the gilded frame and the red matted frame. This lot comprises the pictures and frames only; the furniture and other background items shown in the images are not included.
Condition report:
The collection appears in generally stable condition. The ornate painted frames show visible wear to the edges and corners with some minor losses to the decorative mouldings (photo 1). The modern black frames show light surface scuffing and dust consistent with storage (photo 1). There are some visible specks of debris and dust caught under the glazing of the matted works (photo 3). The paint interventions on the floral frames are intact and appear as a deliberate design feature.
