Lot 255:
Sold for: £7
Description
A trio of vintage manual portable typewriters, each housed within its respective hardshell carrying case. The first typewriter features an ivory-coloured metal frame with contrasting green plastic keys, bearing the script name Olympia on the paper table. The second machine is a two-tone blue and ivory model with a frame label reading IMPERIAL followed by a square symbol. This unit features Magic Margin controls and a Twin Pak ribbon system; one spool carries a white adhesive label with the handwritten digits 2045044. The third item is a brown-toned metal typewriter with cream keys and a single red tab key. A metal plaque on the front is inscribed Scheidegger over PRINCESS-MATIC. The collection is accompanied by three cases: a tan hardshell case for the Olympia, a light-coloured case with a black plastic handle for the Imperial, and a textured brown case for the Scheidegger.
Condition report:
The Olympia typewriter appears in clean condition with no visible mechanical or cosmetic faults to the main unit, though the exterior tan case shows significant surface scuffing and wear to the edges (photo 1). The Imperial machine displays some surface grime to the ivory frame and has a loose, tangled black ribbon currently detached from the spools (photo 3). The Scheidegger Princess-matic shows significant condition issues including extensive paint loss, pitting, and corrosion across the front frame, the space bar, and the upper carriage assembly (photo 4). All cases show varying degrees of exterior age-related wear and tarnishing to the metal latches.
