Description
A pair of binoculars comprising a vintage set of porro-prism binoculars and a modern astronomical constellation-finding set. The vintage pair is constructed with a metal body and a black pebble-textured grip, featuring a central focus wheel and an adjustable right dioptre. The left shoulder plate is marked 10 X 50 COATED OPTICS, while the right plate bears a crown-style logo above the name REGENT and the text CHANCE-PILKINGTON MARK I. These are accompanied by a black textured carrying case with a red felt lining and leather strap. The modern set comprises a pair of rubber-armoured binoculars with orange-coated objective lenses, embossed to the central hinge cap with CHINA. They are presented in their original retail box titled CONSTELLATION FINDING BINOCULARS, which describes them as designed for use with star-finding smartphone applications.
Condition report:
The vintage binoculars show visible paint loss and wear to the metal edges and objective lens housings (photo 1). The associated leather-style strap is heavily worn and frayed (photo 1). The carrying case exhibits age-related scuffing to the exterior surfaces. The modern constellation binoculars appear in good order with three lens caps present; one objective lens cap is missing (photo 5). The original retail packaging for the modern set shows some edge wear and creasing (photo 3).
