Description

A collection of vintage photographic exposure meters and related equipment, primarily dating from the mid-20th century. The group comprises various light meters, rangefinders, and exposure calculators constructed from a mix of die-cast metal, bakelite, and early plastics. Notable pieces include a Weston Master IV meter with a black and white dial, a Soviet-made Leningrad 4 exposure meter in a plastic body marked USSR, and a white ridged plastic meter with a red plate reading Sixon. Also present is a small pocket-watch style actinometer marked Watkins Bee Meter, a silver-tone Gnome accessory rangefinder, and a Prinz 16 F.P.S. Movie Meter.

The lot features several meters with their original leather cases, including two brown leather cases embossed Photopia and a black pebbled-leather case marked Unittic. Documentation is present for the Leningrad 4 meter, with a manual marked RAD 4. Additional accessories include a Johnsons of Hendon Ltd exposure calculator disc and a small Logophot slide rule in a black pouch. One internal mechanical component is present, marked Copal and Asahi Opt. Co. Japan.

Condition report:

The items are in generally good cosmetic condition for their age, showing typical surface wear, dust, and minor oxidation consistent with use (photo 1). The Leningrad 4 instructional manual is creased and shows edge wear (photo 6). The leather case for the Sixon meter displays heavy wear and scuffing to the edges (photo 2). The needles on the Weston and Leningrad meters appear at zero; however, the functional responsiveness of the selenium cells and other mechanical parts is untested. Glass elements appear intact but may contain internal dust (photo 3).
