Description
A trio of glazed ceramic horse figurines comprising two heavy horses and one young foal. The collection includes a standing Shire or Clydesdale horse featuring a dark bay glazed body, a black mane braided with yellow and red ribbons, a docked tail, and white feathered hooves. The second heavy horse is depicted in a grazing pose with its head lowered and turned slightly, finished in a similar bay brown glaze with a black mane and tail. The third figure is a smaller standing foal with a chestnut body and a white mane and tail. The standing heavy horse is marked to the underside with a circular black backstamp reading BESWICK ENGLAND surrounding a central word, possibly CONNOISSEUR, and features three circular vent holes. The grazing horse has two vent holes and a dark circular Royal Doulton backstamp. The foal bears a circular printed mark to the underside reading HELSBORO WARE ENGLAND.
Condition report:
The standing Shire horse with the braided mane appears in very good condition with a high-gloss finish and no visible chips or cracks (photos 1 and 2). The grazing horse shows no visible repairs or damage (photo 5). The foal figurine has visible surface scuffs and rub marks across the mid-section of its left side (photo 7). The undersides of the heavy horses show the expected unglazed areas to the hooves and vent holes consistent with the manufacturing process (photos 3, 4, and 6).
