Description
A collection of philatelic material and embroidered souvenir patches. The philatelic component is housed within a red ring binder titled Ace Advance 70, containing several pages of Isle of Man postage stamps. The album includes mint condition booklet panes dated 5th July 1973 featuring Laxey, Douglas Promenade, Castle Town, and Tynwald Hill. A dedicated page displays a series of Postage Due stamps from the same date, featuring the Three Legs of Man triskelion design, noted as lithographed by Questa in both mint and used examples. Also included are gutter pairs from 4th September 1973 commemorating motorcycle racing, described as the first gutter pairs issued by the Isle of Man.
The lot further includes an assortment of travel and commemorative embroidered patches. Notable examples include souvenir badges for various global destinations such as California, Italia, New York, Sorrento, Brest, Roma, Kenya, Barbados, and Dubrovnik. The group features several French regional patches for Bretagne, Royan, Dinard, and Saint-Malo. Specialist interest items include a felt paratrooper wing, a patch for the 24HR Pepsi Challenge Daytona ’81, and a commemorative badge for the Olympische Winterspiele 1964 Innsbruck.
Condition report:
The stamp album binder shows visible edge wear, scuffing, and minor losses to the covers (photo 1). Internal pages exhibit light age-related toning. The stamps are mounted behind protective plastic and appear to be in good condition. The embroidered patches generally retain vibrant colours, although some examples, such as the Italia and Brest patches, show fraying and loose threads at the edges (photo 2). The paratrooper wing badge displays pilling on the felt surface.
