Description
A Raleigh Mantis mountain bike featuring a steel rigid frame with a multi-colour splash paint scheme in shades of yellow, blue, green, and magenta. The bicycle is equipped with an 18-speed Shimano SIS (Shimano Index System) drivetrain and Sakae stem. The frame is marked with several decals: the top tube bears the model name MANTIS in a serif font; the down tube displays RALEIGH in a stylised multi-coloured font; and the seat tube indicates 18 SPEED alongside a Raleigh logo. A small black decal featuring the Raleigh heron logo is visible on the frame stay. The bicycle is fitted with cantilever rim brakes and knobby tyres on silver-toned rims. Accessories include front and rear silver-coloured plastic mudguards, a black metal rear luggage rack, a blue plastic water bottle cage, and a novelty bell on the stem featuring a circular PEPSI logo. Promotional MBUK (Mountain Biking UK) magazine stickers are present on the fork and seat tube.
Condition report:
The bicycle is in used, unrestored condition with significant surface rust visible on the rear cassette, chain, seat post bolt, and various exposed hardware (photo 5). The paintwork shows scattered chips and scratches consistent with age and use, particularly on the top and down tubes (photo 2). The tyres are soiled with mud (photo 1), and the silver-toned mudguards show surface scuffing and discolouration (photo 3). The handle grips appear worn (photo 3) and the yellow plastic pump bracket is missing its pump (photo 6). The drivetrain and chain require cleaning and lubrication.
