Lot 69:
Description
A collection of decorative horse figurines comprising four cold-cast bronze effect resin commemoratives and a pair of Art Deco style ceramic figures. The resin group from the Atlas Editions The Sport of Kings series includes depictions of legendary racehorses Red Rum, Mill Reef, Desert Orchid, and Shergar. Each is mounted on a dark wood effect rectangular base with an inset brass-toned nameplate. The lot includes corresponding Atlas Editions Certificates of Authenticity for each named horse, alongside a promotional fold-out brochure for Red Rum. The certificates bear the Atlas Editions logo and specific commemorative red seals, such as “3 TIMES GRAND NATIONAL WINNER” for Red Rum and “THE LEGENDARY IRISH STALLION” for Shergar. Also included are two matching stylized pottery horses featuring a caramel-brown mottled drip glaze. These ceramic figures are modelled in a rearing pose with swept-back manes and tails, integrated into a curved architectural base. No maker’s marks are visible on the ceramic pair.
Condition report:
The Red Rum figurine shows significant damage with all four legs having been broken and subsequently repaired; visible adhesive residue is present at each break point (photo 7). The Mill Reef, Desert Orchid, and Shergar resin figurines appear to be in good condition with no visible chips or breaks (photos 1, 2, and 6). The two ceramic figurines appear in good condition with no visible damage (photo 8). The accompanying certificates and paper ephemera show light handling wear and minor creasing (photos 3 and 4).
