Description

A collection of four red-bound stamp stockbooks containing a diverse assortment of used and unused postal issues from the British Commonwealth, Europe, and the United States. One binder features gold-blocked lettering reading STAMP ALBUM and an applied Chinese 30-fen stamp on the upper cover with characters reading 中国人民邮政. Another stockbook is fitted with a handwritten adhesive label identifying the contents as Denmark, Belgium, Finland, India, Norway, Pakistan, and Sweden.

The collection comprises several hundred stamps arranged primarily by country and chronology, with handwritten year dates from the 1860s through to the 1980s. Notable inclusions feature early Indian definitive issues of King George V and King George VI, alongside Swedish, Spanish, and Portuguese colonial issues from Angola, Mozambique, and Timor. A substantial section is dedicated to US philately, including the 1925 Norse-American centennial, the Champion of Liberty series, and various 19th-century definitive portraits. The lot also includes a first day cover from Anguilla dated 1977, commemorating the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, featuring a cachet and circular date stamp. The stamps are predominantly perforated and are housed behind protective clear strips.

Condition report:

The collection shows signs of handling consistent with use. One red binder cover exhibits adhesive tape residue and minor edge wear (photo 1). Internal pages show intermittent foxing and light toning, particularly at the margins (photo 4). Several stamps are loose from their mounts or misaligned within the stockbook rows (photo 3). A protective glassine interleaving sheet shows creasing and a small tear to the lower right corner (photo 2). The stamps generally exhibit typical postal cancellations including circular date stamps and machine cancels; centering varies across the collection.
