Lot 60:
Description
A cast bronze relief plaque depicting a highly expressive and stylised human head in profile. The work is executed in a vigorous modernist style with roughly modelled, impressionistic surfaces that prioritise form and movement over fine detail. The bronze is finished with a dark brown patina, featuring visible areas of verdigris oxidation within the deeper recesses and rubbing to the high points which reveals warmer copper tones beneath. The reverse shows a hollow, concave casting with visible tool marks and the remains of an unidentified adhesive or mounting residue along the irregular rim. No signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are visible on the modelled surface or the reverse.
Width: 23.5 cm
Height: 16.5 cm.
Condition report:
The plaque is in good condition consistent with the casting process. There are irregular, rough-cast edges as manufactured. Significant verdigris oxidation is present on the interior and in the surface recesses (photo 3). Surface scuffs and rubbing are visible on prominent features (photo 1). Residue from a previous mounting material is present on the reverse rim (photo 3). Minor pitting consistent with the casting process is evident across the surface.
