Lot 55:
Description
A collection of eleven ceramic animal figurines, predominantly featuring high-gloss glazes. The group comprises of a Siamese cat reclining model, two seated panda cubs, two black-faced rams or ewes with curved horns, a Corgi, a Pug, a large brown horse with four white socks, a small dark foal, and two donkeys including one foal. The pieces are naturalistically modelled with hand-painted details to the eyes and coats.
Multiple items in the collection bear printed marks to the underside. The Siamese cat features a circular printed black mark reading “BESWICK ENGLAND” and an impressed model number “1558”, along with a hand-painted black “17”. Similar circular “BESWICK ENGLAND” marks are visible on the Pug, Corgi, one donkey, the large horse, and one sheep. The panda cub features a linear printed “BESWICK ENGLAND” mark. One foal bears a small white circular symbol or “8” to the belly, and the Corgi has a hand-painted black “5” on one paw.
Condition report:
The adult donkey shows a visible repair at the base of the ears where they appear to have been reattached with a yellowish adhesive (photos 11 and 12). The remaining figurines show minor surface wear and small areas of accumulated dust consistent with age but are otherwise free from significant chips, cracks, or visible restorations.
