Lot 44:
Description
A collection of laughing Buddha figurines in various styles and materials, depicting the figure of Budai in various seated poses. The group includes a pair of large figures in a dark brown finish, possibly made of polystone or resin, with a simulated wood grain and darkened patina. These are accompanied by a pair of medium-sized figures with a cream and terracotta two-tone finish, featuring stylized robes and an antiqued surface. The lot further comprises a single seated figure in a dark black material, possibly resin or composition, and four miniature figures. These miniatures include two dark reddish-brown examples, one very small dark brown figure, and one light-coloured figure with a green-tinted finish, possibly soapstone style or resin. No manufacturer marks, labels, or signatures are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good overall condition. The large dark brown figures show light surface dust and minor scuffing to the edges (photo 1). The two-tone medium figures exhibit minor variations in the hand-painted finish around the folds of the robes, consistent with the intended antiqued design (photo 1). No chips, cracks, or visible repairs are evident on any of the nine figures shown.
