Description
A collection of decorative and souvenir thimbles comprising a large assortment of porcelain, bone china, and metal examples. The collection features various themes including British landmarks such as Plymouth, London, and Lincoln Cathedral, floral motifs, and a series representing the months of the year. Notable decorative subjects include wildlife such as a Screech Owl and an Owl Sanctuary, alongside figures including Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Snow White. Some porcelain pieces feature gilded rims and transfer-printed designs. The metal thimbles include examples with darkened, possibly pewter style patinas and one with a silver-coloured finish.
The lot includes three wooden wall-mounted display racks of varying designs: a large rectangular rack with a red felt-lined interior, a dark wood rectangular rack with a green felt-lined interior, and two faceted or house-shaped wooden cabinets. Two thimbles are presented in individual boxes, one featuring a Union Jack flag on the lid and another in a clear plastic case. Visible printed text on various thimbles includes National Aquarium, Mayflower Plymouth, Gibraltar, Devon, Holland, London, and Snow White.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good used condition. There is a significant accumulation of surface dust visible across many of the thimbles and the wooden display racks, particularly evident in the recessed compartments (photo 1, photo 2). No chips, cracks, or significant losses to the ceramic or metal components are visible in the provided images. The wooden racks show minor surface wear consistent with display use.
