Description
This lot comprises two vintage sheepskin coats featuring suede exteriors and thick wool shearling interiors. The first garment is a full-length ladies’ coat in a light tan suede with a contrasting cream-coloured wool lining. It is constructed with wide notched lapels and slanted front pockets, both finished with dark brown leather style piping. The front is secured by three large circular suede-covered buttons. This coat features a fabric label inside the pocket reading Exmoor Sheepskin Shops, with addresses for 40 The Avenue Minehead Som. and 6 Dolphin Square Weston Super Mare, further stating Hand Crafted In Genuine Sheepskin. The second garment is a mid-length coat in dark chocolate brown suede with a matching dark brown wool interior. It features a classic notched collar and three dark brown woven leather style buttons. A small white fabric label is stitched into the interior wool which reads Real Shearling. Both coats feature turned-back cuffs displaying the interior wool pile.
Condition report:
Both coats are in good vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age. The tan coat shows some light surface soiling to the suede and minor matting to the wool pile (photo 1). The brown coat exhibits visible fading and variation in the suede nap, particularly across the front panels, and some wear to the wool pile at the collar and cuffs (photo 2). A small white label is visible in the interior of the brown coat (photo 3). The label for Exmoor Sheepskin Shops remains clearly legible inside the tan coat (photo 5).
