Lot 194:
Description
A mechanical wall clock housed in a dark-stained wood case, featuring an architectural pediment with a central circular boss and scrolled leaf carvings. The case is constructed with a glazed upper section for the dial and three glazed lower panels that reveal the pendulum. The square metal dial plate is finished in an off-white colour with a circular chapter ring, black Arabic numerals, and a railroad-style outer minute track. It is fitted with ornate black-finished metal hands. The movement is mechanical and pendulum-driven, featuring two winding arbors on the dial which indicate an eight-day duration with a strike mechanism. The pendulum consists of a wooden rod with a circular brass-coloured metal bob. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the dial, case, or the exposed portion of the movement plate.
Condition report:
The wooden case shows significant surface wear, including scuffs, scratches, and finish loss along the edges and moldings, particularly visible on the side and base (photos 2 and 3). The dial has a vertical crack running through the lower centre and shows surface staining and foxing (photo 4). Dust and grime are present on the internal glass and movement components. The winding key is not present. The mechanical working status is unknown and the item is sold as seen.
