Description

A Vienna style wall clock featuring a stained wood case, possibly walnut or mahogany, with a mechanical pendulum-driven movement. The case is surmounted by a separate pediment featuring a cast metal finial in the form of a rearing horse and a central molded relief of a female face. The arched glazed door opens to reveal a circular cream-toned dial with black Arabic numerals, a railroad-style minute track, and two black spade hands. The centre of the dial features a brass-coloured engine-turned sunburst pattern and a single winding hole. The lower portion of the case features a brass pendulum bob visible through the glass pane. The side of the case includes circular glass apertures. There are no maker’s names or marks visible on the dial or the interior movement plate.

Condition report:

The wooden case shows significant wear, including deep scratches, scuffs, and visible loss of finish, particularly on the lower edges and the pediment (photo 1). The dial shows foxing, surface dirt, and wear to the numerals (photo 4). The brass pendulum bob exhibits surface oxidation and light scratching (photo 1). The interior of the case contains visible dust and debris. The top horse finial and pediment appear to be separate pieces with a finish and scale that differ from the main body (photo 2). Working status is unknown.
