Description

A collection of stoneware dinner and tea service pieces manufactured by Denby in the Ode pattern. The assortment features a characteristic matte ochre or mustard yellow glaze. The group comprises two tall lidded jugs with sculpted handles and spouts, several graduated plates including examples with a white geometric radial sunburst motif to the borders, and an assortment of mugs, teacups, and saucers. Also included are several nested bowls with contrasting white glazed interiors and a small open sugar basin. One jug base is marked with a printed black stamp within an oval border reading DENBY STONEWARE MADE IN ENGLAND 1 1/2 PT. The pieces exhibit the textured, satin finish typical of 1960s and 1970s British studio stoneware.

Condition report:

The collection appears to be in good overall condition. The lidded jugs retain their original covers without visible chips or cracks (photo 1). The glazes appear consistent across the service, and the printed sunburst patterns on the plates remain crisp (photo 2). Standard shelf wear and minor discolouration are visible to the unglazed foot rings on the bases, as seen in the underside of the jug (photo 4). No significant structural damage, repairs, or heavy utensil scratching are evident from the provided images.
