Description
A collection of animal figurines and novelty items in various materials including glazed porcelain, bisque ceramic, stoneware, and wood. The assortment features marine life, domestic animals, and birds. Notable pieces include a large blue-glazed dolphin group featuring three dolphins on a wave base, and a black and green glazed dolphin group. Feline subjects include a stylized blue cat with gold-toned spots, a matte black sitting cat, and various white cats with floral decorations. Avian figures include a large stylized green owl and a novelty duck in sailor attire.
The collection includes pieces with various marks. A blue dolphin group bears a printed mark with a stag’s head logo reading Gleneagles STUDIO. A black and green glazed dolphin group is marked to the base POOLE ENGLAND with an incised number 4. A white rabbit figurine in bisque ceramic features a blue printed Goebel W. Germany mark and an incised number 5012. A floral decorated turtle or tortoise bears a blue printed mark reading EST 1775 AYNSLEY PEMBROKE Fine Bone China MADE IN ENGLAND and carries a gold and blue foil Aynsley sticker. A white polar bear with floral folk-style patterns is marked to the underside ARTHUR WOOD ENGLAND 8905. Two novelty piggy banks are present; a floral pig marked 1803 WOOD ENGLAND and a grey seal. A dog’s face wall plaque bears a circular stamped mark with a bird logo reading MADE IN ENGLAND.
Condition report:
The collection generally appears in good condition. The Arthur Wood polar bear figurine shows significant surface crazing and a dark crack along the lower rear base area (photo 5). The Goebel rabbit has a metal locking stopper to the base but no key is present (photo 9). The floral pig bank includes a plastic stopper (photo 7). No other significant defects are visible in the photographs.
