Description
A collection of vintage and mid-to-late 20th-century costume jewellery featuring a wide variety of styles and materials. The assortment includes two large gold-tone figural snake brooches with textured bodies and enamel detailing to the heads, and a black enamel cat brooch with gold-tone accents. The group contains several cameo style pieces, notably a large oval portrait brooch depicting an 18th-century style lady, alongside smaller heart-shaped and classic oval cameos.
The lot further comprises various enamel items such as a red and white striped heart brooch and triangular earrings. Symbolic pieces include a silver-tone HAPPY word brooch, multiple cross pendants in wood and metal, and a crescent moon pendant with purple stones. Heavy gold-tone curb link chains, horse-bit style buckles, door-knocker earrings, and a selection of rings are also present. A small box contains a further quantity of loose components, beads, and fragments. While marks are visible on the reverse of the snake and word brooches, they are not currently legible.
Condition report:
The collection shows varied signs of wear consistent with age and use. Visible tarnishing and oxidation are present on both gold-tone and silver-tone base metals throughout the group. There is noticeable loss of enamel on the snake brooches, particularly around the head areas. Several items in the accompanying box include broken components, missing stones, and detached earring backs. Surface scratches are visible on the plastic cameo inserts and the enamel heart brooch.
