Description
A collection of seven botanical prints, primarily featuring roses, in the style of Pierre-Joseph Redouté. The group includes several colour-stipple engravings with hand-colouring, presented in various gilt and silver-toned wood frames. Several plates bear printed inscriptions including P.J. Redouté pinx., Imprimerie de Remond, and Langlois sculp. One print is signed A. MARLIN. The subjects depicted include Rosa Centifolia Anemonoides, Rosa bifera officinalis (Rosier des Parfumeurs), Rosa Eglanteria (Rosier Eglantier), and Rosa Pinda (Rosier d’Amour). The prints are mounted with paper and card mats in green and cream tones behind glass. Each frame is fitted with a hanging wire to the reverse.
Condition report:
The collection exhibits varying degrees of age-related wear. Several prints show visible foxing and brown spotting across the paper surface, most notably in the examples with green mounts (photo 1). Toning and overall darkening of the paper are evident throughout the set. Water staining is present along the lower edges of at least two prints (photo 1). The frames show minor surface abrasions, dust accumulation, and small chips to the gilt finish, particularly at the corners (photo 2 and 3). The paper backing on the reverse of several frames is torn or peeling (photo 5).
