Description

A collection of vintage domestic linens and haberdashery items. This lot comprises a varied assortment of white and cream cotton and linen textiles featuring hand-embroidered floral motifs, including pink roses and wildflowers. One notable piece displays a complex cross-stitch garden scene with a trellis. The linen group includes tablecloths, runners, doilies with scalloped crochet or tatting borders, and utility linens such as a red and white checked gingham cloth. A small circular lace doily in variegated purple and green tones is also present.

The haberdashery section features a rectangular blue and white plastic wicker style sewing basket, which has a padded interior lid lined with floral-patterned fabric. The basket contains miscellaneous supplies including ribbon, white cord, and yellow lace remnants. A gold-toned ceramic or metal bowl holds several clear plastic bags containing an assortment of loose buttons in various sizes and colours including white, brown, and yellow. A fan-shaped fabric needle case or sachet with a purple floral pattern and ribbon tie completes the group.

Condition report:

The items exhibit signs of age and significant prior use. The interior fabric lining of the sewing basket lid shows prominent brown spotting and staining (photo 2). Several folded linens show yellowing and surface marks consistent with long-term storage, particularly visible along fold lines (photo 4). The gold-toned bowl shows minor surface scuffing to the finish (photo 3). The items are generally in fair to good condition, consistent with their utility and age.
