Description
This lot comprises two hand knotted rugs, each featuring a 100 per cent wool pile. The composition is enclosed by a main border of stylized sunburst motifs on a navy ground, flanked by geometric guard borders. An adhesive paper label to the reverse is inscribed with the characters 20.9-, 179 x 121 =, and 21.7. The second rug is a Pakistani Bokhara, featuring multiple rows of octagonal guls, commonly known as elephant foot medallions, on a deep red field with repetitive geometric star and diamond borders. Condition report:
Both rugs show signs of use consistent with their age. The tribal style rug shows visible wear to the pile, particularly towards the centre (photo 1). The fringe at both ends is significantly worn and frayed, with some loss to the overcast edges (photo 4). The Pakistani Bokhara is in generally good condition with an even pile, although there is minor distortion to the overall rectangular shape and some light tangling to the fringe (photo 6).
