Description

A collection of paper ephemera and books featuring a primary copy of Walt Disney’s Snow White Magic Mirror Book. This lot comprises a 1938 edition published by Dean & Son Ltd., London, produced specially for Stephenson Bros. Ltd., Bradford. The volume is presented in its original cardboard mailing box, with the address label directed to Mrs. V. Fry, 6, St. Barnabas Terrace, Stoke, Plymouth, Devon, and includes the required pair of card-framed red and blue Magic Spectacles for viewing the anaglyph 3D illustrations. The interior flyleaf bears a handwritten ink inscription reading ‘This book belongs to Cyril H Fry’.

The group further includes several mid-20th-century cloth-bound and paper-covered books: The Story of Twenty Five Years (1910-1935) Silver Jubilee Book in blue cloth, News Chronicle Everything Within in its original dust jacket, The Birth-Day Album with floral cover, and Wightman’s Arithmetical Tables. A blue plastic crate contains a large quantity of loose cigarette and trade cards, including examples from the Brooke Bond Tea series and The Motor Car series. Also included are four framed items: two architectural prints depicting scenes of Paris, a print of a bear by a totem pole, and a needlepoint of a cat in an oak-style frame.

Condition report:

The Snow White Magic Mirror Book shows shelf wear to the edges and corners of the covers (photo 2), with typical foxing to the internal pages and some surface staining to the mailing box (photo 3). The Magic Spectacles are present and intact (photo 6). The News Chronicle Everything Within dust jacket is heavily torn and distressed with significant losses to the edges and spine (photo 8). The other books show varied degrees of spine wear, toning, and light foxing consistent with age. Framed items appear in generally good order, though the bear print frame shows some minor surface abrasions.
