Lot 341:
Sold for: £18
Description
This lot comprises one Victorian style tub-shaped nursing chair and one separate circular footstool. The chair is constructed with two turned front legs and two square-tapered rear legs in dark-stained wood, all fitted with white ceramic casters. The upholstery is a peach-coloured damask style fabric featuring a cream floral and foliate pattern, with a deep-buttoned tufted backrest. The underside of the chair is finished with a black fabric dust cover secured by staples. The accompanying circular footstool is upholstered in a tapestry style fabric depicting botanical motifs and Latin text including Lupus et ag, sitis ver, pidum ri, and tu Brute fili mi. The stool is supported by three short, rounded wooden bun feet. The underside of the stool is covered in a brown fabric held by upholstery tacks. No manufacturer labels or marks are visible on either piece.
Condition report:
The chair upholstery appears generally intact but shows signs of light surface wear. Significant scuffing, scratches, and loss of finish are visible on the wooden legs, particularly the rear square-tapered legs (photo 4). The white ceramic casters appear complete and functional (photo 5). The footstool tapestry shows surface soiling and fading consistent with age and use (photo 3). Several upholstery tacks on the underside of the stool show visible surface rust (photo 6).
