Lot 324:
Description
A collection of carved wooden elephant figurines and decorative items featuring approximately twenty-five freestanding figures. The group is primarily composed of elephants carved from a dense, dark wood, with some examples displaying a two-tone grain pattern. Many of these figures are detailed with inset white tusks. The collection also includes three flat wooden elephant silhouettes, a carved wooden ashtray base featuring an elephant, and a small carved elephant head. A notable piece within the lot is a rectangular wooden relief plaque depicting the Fontaine des Éléphants monument. This plaque bears the carved inscription CHÂMBÉRY beneath a cross symbol in the upper left corner. The items are finished in various tones ranging from dark ebony-style hardwoods to lighter reddish-brown wood.
Condition report:
The collection shows general surface wear, scuffs, and dust accumulation across multiple items (photo 1). Several freestanding figures are missing one or both tusks (photo 2). A visible crack is present in the base of the elephant ashtray (photo 4). The Chambéry plaque and flat silhouettes appear in good condition with minor surface abrasions.
