Description

A pair of two mid-century modern gateleg dining tables manufactured by Nathan Furniture. These tables are constructed from teak and teak veneers, featuring a central rectangular section with two semi-circular drop-down leaves that form an oval top when fully extended. The tops are finished with teak veneer and cross-banded edging. Each table is supported by a trestle-style base comprising two solid vertical uprights joined by a central stretcher, with two pivoting gatelegs that swing outwards to support the leaves. The leaves are attached to the central section by original metal hinges. The underside of one table bears a rectangular white adhesive label with a green border and green text reading nathan in a stylised lowercase font, with smaller black text above reading The Master Craftsmen.

Condition report:

Both tables are in good structural condition. There are visible surface scuffs and light scratches to the polished finish on the table tops and legs (photos 1 and 2). Notable white marks, possibly paint transfer or heavy scuffing, are visible on the base of one trestle foot (photo 7). The underside, stretchers, and pivoting mechanisms show an accumulation of dust and cobwebs consistent with long-term storage (photos 5 and 8). The hinges and gateleg mechanisms appear intact and functional (photo 5).
