Lot 284:
Description
A Georgian style mahogany tilt top tripod table featuring a circular top. The table is constructed from dark-stained mahogany with a solid wood top showing a prominent grain. The central pedestal comprises a turned baluster-shaped stem supported by three cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The underside of the top reveals a traditional tilt mechanism with wooden bearers and a reinforcing metal plate where the legs join the base. A small white rectangular adhesive label is present on the top surface, though it contains no legible manufacturer information. No maker marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The table shows significant wear and signs of use throughout. The top surface displays numerous deep scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish loss (photo 1). Several small chips and dings are visible along the outer edge of the circular top (photo 1). The base and legs show heavy abrasion, particularly around the pad feet, where the wood is worn and exhibits possible historical repairs (photo 2). The underside reveals rust on the metal joinery plate and screws, along with general dirt and surface wear to the secondary timber (photo 3).
