Lot 210:
Sold for: £8
Description
A Rococo style wall mirror featuring a gilded composite frame. The frame is elaborately decorated with moulded scrollwork, acanthus leaf motifs, and shells, typical of the mid-to-late 20th-century aesthetic. It is finished in a gold-toned metallic paint with intentional dark recessed areas to simulate an aged patina. The reverse is fitted with a solid brown backing board secured by several cream-coloured plastic or rubber spacers. A single large brass-toned metal hanging bracket is mounted to the upper section of the backboard for vertical display. No manufacturer marks or signatures are present on the piece.
Condition report:
The gilded finish on the frame remains largely intact with some light surface dust and minor wear to the highlights (photo 1). The mirror plate is clear and shows no visible signs of foxing or silvering loss (photo 1). The reverse shows minor scuffs and surface scratches to the brown backing board (photo 2). One of the plastic bumpers on the reverse is partially covered by the metal hanging bracket, but all appear to be structurally sound (photo 2).
