Description

This lot comprises two brass oil-burning lamps of Victorian style. The first item is a telescopic floor lamp featuring a brass central column mounted on a dark-stained wood base. The base is constructed as a stepped, pyramidal plinth resting on small feet. The lamp is fitted with a large white frosted glass globe shade decorated with an acid-etched floral and foliate design, accompanied by a clear glass chimney. The brass font includes twin wick adjusters. A partially legible inscription is visible near the base of the clear glass chimney reading USE and ALIGHT. The second item is a brass table lamp consisting of a central font on a waisted pedestal and circular foot, featuring a single wick adjuster. It is provided with a white opal glass dome-style shade and a clear glass chimney. Both lamps are original paraffin-burning units and have not been converted for electricity.

Condition report:

The telescopic floor lamp shows natural aged patina and tarnish to the brass components throughout. The wooden base exhibits scuffs and wear to the dark finish consistent with age (photo 3). The etched glass globe and clear chimney appear intact. The table lamp shows significant surface oxidation, tarnish, and areas of verdigris to the brass font and base (photo 4). The burner assembly on the table lamp displays soot and charring from previous use. The opal glass shade and chimney are in good order with no visible cracks or chips. The holder for the shade isn’t present.
