Description

A trio of vintage items including two walking canes and a copper alloy post horn. The first walking cane features a hand-carved wooden handle in the form of a dachshund head, finished with a dark stain that highlights the grain. The shaft is constructed from a natural figured wood, possibly partridge wood, displaying a distinctive mottled tiger-stripe grain pattern, and is joined to the handle by a slim white metal collar. The second walking cane is a leather-wrapped example with a curved crook handle. The dark brown leather covering features intricate decorative weaving, including a ribbed texture to the handle and a diamond-lattice braided pattern to the upper shaft. It is finished with a bright white metal ferrule to the tip. The lot is completed by a straight, tapering copper alloy post horn, constructed with a flared bell and a simple mouthpiece. No manufacturer marks, hallmarks, or labels are visible on any of the three items.

Condition report:

The dachshund-head cane shows minor surface wear to the carved handle and light finish loss with superficial scratches to the shaft (photo 2). The leather-wrapped cane displays signs of age including surface scuffs, drying, and a small area of leather loss near the mid-section joint (photo 4); the metal ferrule shows significant oxidation and pitting (photo 3). The copper alloy post horn exhibits surface oxidation, tarnish, and minor dings throughout, with a visible seam line running the length of the bell (photo 1).
