Lot 161:
Sold for: £100
Description
A collection of elephant figurines and themed decorative objects, primarily constructed from cast brass with various patinated and polished finishes. The assortment features a wide variety of statuettes in diverse poses, including larger hollow-cast stylised figures with raised trunks and small solid miniatures. Notable pieces include a stylised elephant figurine holding a faceted clear glass or crystal ball in its trunk and a group of two larger bookend style elephant heads.
The lot also comprises functional and decorative brassware, featuring horse brasses with elephant motifs, a brass bell in the form of an elephant, a small candlestick holder, and a circular pentagram style plaque. One dark grey toned figurine appears to be made of stone or resin, and another small figure features a copper toned finish.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and use consistent with decorative brassware. Tarnish, oxidation, and surface patination are visible across the majority of the brass pieces (photo 1). One large elephant with a raised trunk has a visible area of surface wear or plating loss on the top of its head, exposing a lighter coloured base metal (photo 5). Minor surface scratches and pitting from the casting process are evident on several of the smaller figurines (photo 7). The faceted glass ball on the elephant figurine appears intact with no visible chips (photo 7).
