Description
A collection of decorative elephant-themed wall plaques and figurines, comprising both carved wood and cast metal examples. The assortment includes two large stylized elephant head wall plaques in smooth-finished hardwood, one of which features a light-coloured tusk detail. The group also features a relief carving of an elephant in profile walking left, and a three-dimensional carving of two elephants with intertwined trunks interacting over a sphere. The final piece is a cast brass wall plaque depicting an elephant head with an upturned trunk and long tusks, mounted on an ornate pierced foliate backplate with incised linear decoration. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
The large wooden head plaque has a small natural fissure or chip visible on the top edge of the left ear (photo 1). The brass plaque shows areas of oxidation and tarnish, notably around the base of the trunk and ears (photo 2). The medium wooden head plaque exhibits light surface scuffing and dust accumulation in recessed areas (photo 1). The full-body relief plaque shows minor surface wear to the finish on the edges of the ears and feet (photo 4). All items show general light handling marks and surface dust consistent with age.
