Description

A collection of musical instruments and carved wooden decorative items including a kalimba, a tambourine, and various wooden objects. The kalimba is constructed with a polished dark wood body, possibly mahogany, featuring seventeen metal tines secured by a metal pressure bar. The body is decorated with a laser-etched floral border around the central sound hole. The headless tambourine comprises a light-coloured bentwood frame with a hand-grip cutout and inset metal jingles.

The lot also includes a wooden trinket box with a dark finish. The lid features a white-infilled engraving depicting a map of the Maltese Islands and a Knight Hospitaller, with the text GOZO, MALTA, THE MALTESE ISLANDS, and a Maltese cross. Also present is a carved dark hardwood bust of a water buffalo or carabao mounted on an oval base, and a rustic wooden butter mould or hat block together with a separate wooden trough. Two small white adhesive labels reading A562C are attached to the kalimba and tambourine.

Condition report:

The kalimba appears in excellent condition with no visible damage to the tines or wooden body (photo 2). The tambourine frame and jingles show minimal signs of use (photo 2). The Maltese trinket box exhibits significant surface wear and scuffing to the finish on the lid, particularly around the central engraving (photo 3). The water buffalo carving appears intact with no visible chips (photo 1). The rustic wooden mould and trough show heavy signs of age and wear, including surface abrasions and grain separation (photo 3).
