Lot 133:
Sold for: £12
Description
A collection of vintage toys and games featuring a die-cast model of the Royal State Coach. The coach is finished in a gold-tone colour and is accompanied by eight white horses with riders and two separate footmen figures, all mounted on a brown textured base. A gold-tone plaque at the front of the base is embossed with the words Royal State Coach. The lot also includes a set of tinplate toy balance scales finished in blue paint, housed in a teal-coloured cardboard presentation box. The scales feature two metal pans, one circular and one rectangular.
The group further comprises two cardboard cribbage boxes with lithographed graphics, an assortment of black and white dominoes in a plastic bag, and a small cast-metal toy iron with a cream crackle-glazed finish. Completing the collection is a rectangular black enamelled metal watercolour tin and a small circular metal tin. The circular tin features a red adhesive label on the lid with a black bird silhouette and the printed word SWALLOW.
Condition report:
The Royal State Coach model shows visible paint chipping and losses to the riders and horses (photo 2). The gold-tone finish on the coach body appears dulled by surface dust (photo 2). The tinplate scales exhibit significant paint loss and scuffing, particularly along the lower edges of the blue body, and the metal pans show signs of surface oxidation and grime (photo 3). The teal cardboard box for the scales has crushed edges and scuffing (photo 3). The cribbage boxes show edge wear and some surface discolouration (photo 2). The small metal iron has a heavily distressed and crackled paint finish which appears to be a design feature (photo 3).
