Description
A collection of six assorted ceramic items, comprising various earthenware and stoneware vessels showcasing a range of decorative techniques. The group includes a large ovoid vase with gilded C-scroll handles, featuring a heavy sand-textured finish and a hand-painted grape and vine motif in dark brown. A mid-century style teardrop-shaped tripod dish is decorated with a vibrant red and mottled brown drip glaze. The assortment also features a double-lobed basket with a high fixed handle, finished in a volcanic drip glaze over a red ground. An incised mark to the base of the basket includes the characters M and G above the word Hype and a stylized flourish. A rounded kettle-style teapot is finished in cobalt blue flow-style glaze with a transfer-printed romantic garden scene. The lot further includes a barrel-form relief pitcher with a tavern scene in a golden-brown glaze, a heart-shaped planter with a burgundy-red sang de boeuf style finish, and a small red glazed dish. The base of the large vase displays a yellow crazed glaze and a rough unglazed foot rim.
Condition report:
Crazing is visible to the yellow-glazed base of the large textured vase (photo 12) and minor wear to the gilding on its handles (photo 11). The teardrop tripod dish shows minor surface scratches consistent with age (photo 2). Minor wear is present on the gilded finial and handle of the cobalt blue teapot (photo 6). The barrel-form pitcher displays minor glaze pops from manufacture (photo 8). The heart-shaped vase exhibits heavy crazing and minor pitting throughout the red glaze (photo 9). The drip-glazed basket and small red dish appear to have no visible chips or cracks.
