A collection of folding and fixed blade knives, tools, and associated militaria. The lot features a variety of pocket knives including two hawkbill style pruning knives with wooden handles, one in a light natural wood and the other in a dark reddish-brown wood. The group includes a military style clasp knife with black chequered scales and a marlinspike. Also present is a small red multi-tool style pocket knife with a visible toothpick, and several slender pen knives with metal and simulated mother-of-pearl scales. One metal pen knife bears an engraved inscription reading FOUNDERS SERVICE AWARD. A small fixed-blade dagger is included, featuring a dark wood handle and a matching wooden scabbard with carved floral decoration and brass style fittings.
Accompanying the tools is a quantity of militaria including cloth insignia and metal buttons. These include a green triangular patch with white embroidered characters Y H A, and circular black patches with green embroidery reading GIRL GUIDES. A small plastic bag contains approximately ten metal buttons in silver and bronze tones, some with a central wheel motif and lettering. The lot also contains a cylindrical metal sharpening rod, a silver-toned hobby knife handle with a knurled grip, and a small circular container with a decorative tortoiseshell effect lid and brass fretwork.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and varied use throughout. Most knife blades exhibit surface oxidation, pitting, and dark patina (photo 1). The pruning knives appear in cleaner condition compared to the older pen knives which show significant sharpening wear (photo 3). The black military style knife scales show some surface dirt and wear (photo 5). The cloth patches show minor fraying to the edges consistent with removal from a garment (photo 2). The carved wood scabbard of the dagger shows some surface scuffs but the floral carving remains distinct (photo 5).
