Description
This lot comprises a pair of vintage folding side chairs in the mid-century modern style. The chairs are constructed with tubular chrome-plated steel frames and feature padded seats and backrests upholstered in a reddish-brown vinyl with a simulated leather grain. The underside of the seats reveals a particleboard base. Each chair retains two original adhesive labels to the underside. One is a white rectangular paper label that reads: “09367 NOTICE THIS ARTICLE MEETS ALL FLAMMABILITY REQUIREMENTS OF CALIFORNIA BUREAU OF HOME FURNISHINGS BULLETINS 116 AND 117. CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED NEAR OPEN FLAME OR WITH BURNING CIGARETTES.” The second is a blue and white Samsonite brand label reading: “Samsonite ® model no 240661 mfg date 9 81” and includes a “LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY” for the Samsonite Corporation, Murfreesboro, Tenn 37130.
Condition report:
The chairs are in good vintage condition. The chrome-plated frames show light surface oxidation and minor pitting consistent with age (photo 1). The vinyl upholstery is intact with no visible tears, though some light surface wear and minor creasing is present on the seat pads (photo 1). The black plastic feet caps appear to be present on all legs. There is some minor fraying to the fabric backing visible around the staples on the underside of the seats (photo 2).
