Description

This lot comprises two wall mirrors in contrasting decorative styles. The first item is a circular mirror set within a square composite or resin frame, featuring an openwork Rococo style design with heavily scrolled foliate and acanthus leaf motifs. The frame is finished with a dark greyish-green ground and gilded highlights on the raised relief. The second item is a rectangular wall mirror featuring a wooden or composition frame with Neoclassical decorative mouldings. This frame includes a beaded outer edge, a wide cove with stylised leaf motifs, and an inner border of repeating foliate scrolls, all finished in a uniform dull gilt. Both mirrors appear to contain modern glass plates. No manufacturer marks, labels, or signatures are visible on either piece. A pink adhesive label bearing the number 702 is present on the frame of both mirrors. This lot comprises the mirrors only; the electrical cord and other background items shown in the images are not included.

Condition report:

The Rococo style mirror shows visible wear to the gilded finish, most notably on the inner rim of the circular frame (photo 2). Surface dust is present in the deeper recesses of the moulded scrolls. The Neoclassical rectangular mirror exhibits several areas of damage to the corner and edge mouldings, where the composition material has chipped away to reveal the white plaster beneath (photo 3). There is also minor surface scuffing and loss of gilding around the outer edges of the rectangular frame. The mirror glass in both items appears clear and free from visible foxing or silvering loss.
