Lot 210:
Description
A vintage live steam stationary model engine. The model is constructed with a turquoise-teal painted stamped tinplate base, featuring a cast metal engine frame and a horizontal brass or copper boiler. The boiler is mounted upon a red-painted tinplate firebox with a raised brick-effect pattern and a short chimney stack. The mechanical assembly includes a horizontal single-cylinder mechanism with a piston and cylinder, a connecting rod, and a red-painted spoked flywheel with an integrated drive pulley. The boiler displays three threaded apertures on the upper surface for the attachment of accessories. The firebox features a rectangular observation port on one side and an arched opening at the front for a burner tray. No manufacturer marks, signatures, or retailer labels are visible on any component of the model.
Condition report:
The turquoise base shows significant play wear with widespread paint loss, scratches, and areas of oxidation and surface rust, particularly visible at the corners and along the raised edges (photo 1 and photo 5). The red-painted firebox and engine frame exhibit similar paint loss and surface corrosion (photo 1). The brass boiler shows heavy tarnish and darkening consistent with previous heat exposure and age (photo 2 and photo 3). The cylinder assembly and piston rods show surface rust and accumulated grime (photo 5). The model is incomplete, missing its spirit burner lamp, safety valve, whistle, and the connecting steam pipes between the boiler and the cylinder. The mechanical movement of the flywheel and piston has not been tested.
