Lot 208:
Description
A Märklin stationary horizontal steam engine. The model is constructed with a brass boiler secured by two copper straps to a black-painted metal firebox featuring a textured brickwork design. The engine is mounted on a large, rectangular die-cast metal base with a raised diamond tread plate pattern to the engine bed. The mechanism features a single-acting cylinder connected to a heavy brass-rimmed flywheel on a crankshaft with an integrated drive pulley. The boiler is fitted with a steam pressure gauge graduated in bar (1, 2, and 3), a vertical water level sight glass, a safety valve, and a steam whistle with a wooden handle. A steam take-off pipe with a control valve connects the boiler to the cylinder. The burner drawer is present at the front of the firebox, which also features a small metal plaque reading “MÄRKLIN Germany”.
Condition report:
The item is in used vintage condition with visible signs of age and operation. The brass boiler and copper straps show significant tarnishing, surface oxidation, and heat-related discolouration (photo 1). The black paint on the base and firebox shows various chips, scratches, and white dust specks throughout (photo 4). Surface rust is visible on the piston rod and crank pin assembly (photo 7). The mechanical completeness appears good with the flywheel, piston, and burner drawer all present, though the functional state of the valves and seals is untested.
