Description
A group of tea and coffee service items comprising two distinct sets. The first is a set of fine china in an octagonal faceted form, decorated in the Caprice pattern with transfer-printed pink flowers and green foliage. This set includes a lidded teapot, a cream jug, several teacups, saucers, and side plates. The base of a cup bears a black printed backstamp featuring a lion standing upon a crown, surrounded by the words MADE IN ENGLAND and ROYAL DOULTON, with Royal Doulton, CAPRICE, © 1988 ROYAL DOULTON, and FINE CHINA printed below.
The second set is an earthenware or ironstone tea service featuring blue floral transfer-ware in a flow blue style with scalloped edges and molded scroll relief details. The set includes a cream jug, a waste bowl, a large serving plate, and multiple teacups and saucers. The rims show remnants of gold gilding. The underside of the saucer shows no visible factory mark, displaying only an all-over clear glaze crazing.
Condition report:
The Royal Doulton Caprice set is in generally good condition with no visible chips or cracks; minor surface soiling is visible on the foot rim of one cup (photo 3). The flow blue style earthenware set shows significant all-over age crazing to the glaze on all pieces (photo 6, 7). There are small chips to the rims of the cream jug (photo 5) and some teacups. Significant wear and loss to the gold gilding is visible on all edges (photo 4, 6).
