Lot 348:
Description
A reproduction Georgian style mahogany veneered sideboard, following classical Regency aesthetic. The piece is constructed with mahogany veneers featuring crossbanded borders to the drawer fronts and doors. The central section houses a single cupboard door with a decorative glazed panel featuring an X-shaped astragal fretwork arrangement. This central unit is flanked by two side sections, each comprising a single drawer over a cupboard door. The cupboard doors are further embellished with applied bolection-style molded frames forming shaped central panels. The entire unit is supported by four square tapered legs. The hardware consists of circular brass drop ring handles on the drawers and doors. The interior of the central section includes a single wooden shelf for storage. No manufacturer’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item. This lot comprises the sideboard only; the chairs, tables, and other furniture shown in the background are not included.
Condition report:
The sideboard shows significant signs of wear and surface damage. The top surface exhibits extensive scratching, scuffs, and abrasions across the entire finish, with visible white marks and clouding throughout (photo 1). There is noticeable edge wear and chipping to the mahogany veneers, particularly visible along the lower edges and corners of the door frames (photo 1). The overall finish appears dull with surface grime and heavy patination to the brass hardware. The glass panel appears intact but shows a layer of surface dust (photo 1).
